An aged redwood bridge crosses a creek and a entry path flanked by rock walls leads to this 1954 classic home set in a hillside Redwood grove. The project goal was to preserve the historic character of the building while updating the home for an easygoing modern lifestyle.

To achieve this the home was deftly expanded and brightened, adding a second story primary suite, and perforating the structure with windows and skylights in key locations. Maintaining the wood exterior and original window styles creates a balanced blend of old and modern and quietly resonates with its setting.
